With a new year just around the corner, we all have an opportunity to start 2015 with a clean slate. With this in mind, we wanted to talk about inspiration; ideas to get us all geared up for a great 2015.
If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got. In other words, if you want something to change, YOU have to do something differently. If you aren’t meeting your targets for KPIs, what is it that you can change and do differently? Can your team support you? Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try. If you don’t try, nothing will change.
A successful leader demonstrates what’s possible. If you’re a leader, you should be leading by example. Managers take heed of this message, your employees will always be learning from you so it’s imperative that you do your job well, demonstrating what it is that you want from your team. That might be punctuality, attention to detail or exceptional customer service. Whatever you want from your department, do it yourself first. To take it another step further, true leadership is still doing what is right when nobody is watching. Read more on leadership here.
If you live to work, rather than work to live, your work / life balance might need some attention. Don’t be that person who never ever takes annual leave – we all need time out for ourselves. Some people achieve work / life balance by taking holidays, or going overseas, others prefer to just lounge around the house and put their feet up. Some people prefer to spend quality time with family and friends, while others prefer to work on a hobby or an interest. Whatever it is that rejuvenates you and recharges your batteries, work with that and make time for it. If you wait for the right time, you’ll wait forever.
There’s plenty of inspiration out there, so don’t be afraid to try new things and take on what works for you. If there’s someone in the dealership who is achieving great results or seems to have a great work / life balance, chat to them and find out what it is and try it for yourself. If it doesn’t work, that’s ok. What makes us tick is different for each individual. We hope this sets you on track for a great start to 2015!
