Our client is a multi-franchised vehicle distributor and retailer, who has multiple sites spread throughout PNG. They are presently seeking a Workshop Manager for one of their busy dealerships. The computer system in use at this dealership is Titan and the position reports to the Service Manager and Branch Manager.
In this role you will supervise the workshop activities of this multi-faceted centre, which employs around 25 service staff, and services both light commercial and medium commercial vehicles. Prior experience as a Service Manager or Workshop Manager in a franchised dealership is required, with preference given to those who are familiar with truck products, such as Isuzu, Fuso, UD or Mercedes-Benz. This is a challenging role, where you will deal with a wide variety of service issues, across multiple vehicle franchises. The service department performs around 1000 RO’s per month, and requires a Manager with a hands on approach. You will also be heavily involved in the ongoing training of technical staff, and a firm management style will go a long way to ensuring that the goals of the department and the requirements of the customer are meet and where possible, exceeded. Given the massive growth that PNG is experiencing, room for advancement within the dealer group to new sites and other areas is available to those who demonstrate the requisite skills and abilities.
A generous remuneration package based on a very attractive retainer plus incentives will be discussed. Additionally, various expatriate benefits will also be provided, which include free accommodation, free return air fares to point of recruitment, relocation assistance, company vehicle, annual leave, full medical insurance, club memberships and much more.
This role could either be based in Lae or in Port Moresby.
Port Moresby is the capital and largest city of Papua New Guinea. It is located on the shores of the Gulf of Papua, on the south eastern coast of the Papuan Peninsula of the island of New Guinea. The city emerged as a trade centre in the second half of the 19th century. During World War II it was a prime objective for conquest by the Imperial Japanese forces, to be used as a staging point and air base to cut off Australia from South-east Asia and the Americas. Port Moresby has a population of over 400,000, giving it an annual growth rate of about 2.1%. The first European to see it was Captain John Moresby in 1873. It was named in honour of his father, Admiral Sir Fairfax Moresby. For further information on PNG please visit the following website http://www.papuanewguinea.travel/australia. Direct flights to Port Moresby are available from Brisbane and Cairns.
Lae is home for around 100,000 citizens and is the largest cargo port, and the industrial hub of PNG. Lae is situated at the start of the Highlands Highway, which is the main land highway in PNG. Connecting several major cities, the highway runs for approximately 700km and is the only transport option for heavy equipment and consumables to and from the adjoining provinces.
Lae has a good community of expats, from all parts of the world and working in all forms of industry. The Lae Golf and Yacht Club is a popular local venue (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Lae-Golf-Club/192867440754289), and there are many local groups that undertake many social events both in Lae and further afield (https://www.facebook.com/Lae.Explorers.Club?ref=ts&fref=ts AND https://www.facebook.com/MorobeMotorcycleClub/)
